Contact lenses, for those who can wear them, are a nice option over eyeglasses. Let’s take a look at the pros and cons of each so that you can make an informed decision on what may be best for you.
Eyeglasses or No Eyeglasses?
Pros of wearing eyeglasses:
- Can correct astigmatism more effectively and efficiently
- They offer a more sophisticated or intelligent look
- You don’t have to go through a complex cleaning regiment every day
The cons (get ready):
- They are not particularly utilitarian when it comes to sports activities— frames get bent and lenses pop out
- They’re bulky and tend to slide down your nose
- Any movement of glasses may distort your vision
- Sometimes sores can develop on the tops or backs of your ears and the sides of your nose until you adjust your glasses or get used to them
- The arms can partially block your peripheral vision
Now We Come Around to the Pros and Cons of Contacts
Here are the pros:
- They’re fun—you can change your eye color
- They’re great for sports because they will not fall off easily like glasses and they give you a larger field of view
- Vision is natural without distortion
- No one can tell that you’re wearing them
- You can wear them in the rain without having to wipe them off
The cons
- These can be a little pricey when it comes to solutions and replacement contacts
- Putting them in (in particular), and cleaning them is an acquired skill
- You can’t sleep with them in your eyes overnight in some cases
- Situations causing eye irritation is increased tenfold
- Cannot open your eyes completely underwater
And one last con regarding contacts; if indeed they do fall out… good luck finding them!
