A critical aspect in choosing eyeglasses is selecting the pair that best compliments your face. This can be a bit more involved than one might think. But we’ve all seen people who somehow don’t grasp the concept of symmetry. There’s the jowly, pumpkin-faced man with small round wire-rims. There’s the thin Olive Oyl with the huge tortoise shells. Yes, knowing how your face is shaped will give you the best chance of finding that perfect pair of eyeglasses that will put your look all together.
Most Eye Doctors classify face shapes into four categories. There is the oval, the square, the round and the heart. The oval-shaped face is considered to be the easiest shape to work with, in regards to selecting frames. The oval-shaped face has balanced proportions with a narrow forehead and with a chin that is slightly narrower than the forehead. The lucky person with an oval-shaped face usually has high cheekbones. Most types of frames fit the oval-shaped face.
The square-shaped face is usually proportional in width and length. The square-shaped face is characterized with a strong jaw line and square chin. It is recommended that those with a square-face opt for round glasses because it gives a contrast to their angular lines.
The round-face has soft curves and very few angles. Usually the length and width are equal. The rule-of-thumb is that a balanced face looks best, so a person with a round-face shape should select angular frames that sharpen the definition.
The heart-shaped face is just that; a wider forehead, a narrow jaw line, narrow chin and high cheekbones. The heart-shaped face is considered the most difficult to fit, so if you have one of these mugs be ready to experiment.
Be proud of your face, don’t try to fit a square peg in a round hole. Don’t be delusional, if they tell you that you have a round-shaped face then accept it. It’s the only face you have.
